The Psalms Project
Featuring Girls Drive Fast
In 1997 I worked on an album-length musical project based on the psalms from the Bible.
I was blessed to work with an extraordinary group of musicians; we called ourselves Girls Drive Fast in honor of our two exceptional lead vocalists - Michelle and Kelly.
The lyrics were all taken directly from the psalms (except for I Will Joy which comes from the last chapter of Habbakuk) but are from a number of different translations depending on which line fit best where.
The music was recorded in front of a small live audience in late November, 1997, at a Hollywood nightclub called The Mint.
The band played through the set three times; no overdubs, no punch-ins, no studio tricks - it's all live, just as it happened.
The recordings are currently the "board" mix, recorded at the same time as the songs were tracked to three DA-88s.
The project currently awaits mixing and mastering...
